Refill Express

Co-founded and built a zero-waste shopping and delivery marketplace that orchestrated reusable container pick-up, refill, and drop-off runs for London refill stores. We shipped production software, onboarded multiple shops, and fulfilled hundreds of two-journey orders.

Overview

Refill Express was born from frustration with single-use packaging and the lack of convenient refill options. The marketplace let London refill shops sell online while we orchestrated the pick-up, refill, and delivery of customers’ reusable containers.

I designed the marketplace UX, shipped consumer web/app and seller dashboard, implemented container-tracking and payments APIs, onboarded multiple London stores, and led fundraising and commercial partnerships.

Co-Founder Responsibilities

As co-founder, I balanced sustainability principles with marketplace economics while building systems that could scale beyond our London pilot. The role spanned product, engineering, operations, and GTM.

Outcome & Learnings

We proved demand for convenient refill logistics and shipped the systems needed to run multi-journey orders at scale. The experience sharpened our understanding of circular packaging operations: container instrumentation, multi-party ops, and dual-sided onboarding all have to move in lockstep. Market readiness and margin structure ultimately required more time than planned, so we concluded the venture in 2023.
